2020 - A new piece for the new year.

OK peoples...this is my first attempt at getting back into my passion of writing after a year hiatus due to the constraints of school. I really was not able to do much more than focus on my nursing degree. THIS ATTEMPT FELT AMAZING and I hope you enjoy it. Thank you Alistair Whyte for the request about a piece on climate change. I hope you like it too!

2020

They say hindsight’s 20/20
Yet, here it is in view,
complete with plastic landmines
and coal producing revenue.
Oceans, once fantastic
now churn microplastic.
Air once fresh and crisp that made us feel so alive
Is breathed through a mask just so we can survive
Carbon, methane, lightning, decomposition of sticks
Anthropogenic catalysts
Beliefs, wants, power, currency, greed
Different definitions on what it means to succeed.
With little thought for all but self, forgotten is genii locorum
Washing our hands, we litter our lands - waste and debris our decorative forum
This laissez-faire paradigm, leaves us all incommunicado
A human race, against time, slowed by its own bravado
The demands for change on this Earth are touted with degrees
Yet the level of disdain drowns out the word “Please?”.
Our world is weltering NOW…on that, can we agree?
The discourse wastes time and energy.
It is time to unite
and change this climate of flaws
Not a time to divide
and harangue about cause.
We all made this.
Our new horizon.
Let us take stock
Not avert our eyes from
Come together, one voice, one song
“We are global strong!”
This all ends a human tragedy
If all is white-washed out to sea.
The human race needs to be one…for better, not worst.
That is the climate that we all must change first.
